Peace Corps Volunteer, Joseph Chow, died in a rock climbing acident near the village of Mbuji in the southern part of Tanzania. Peace Corps Director Aaron Williams issued the following statement.
“Joseph was active, creative and charming. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, to work and play, and to contribute to his community. His sudden passing is terribly painful for the entire Peace Corps family, including Joseph’s students, whose lives were changed by Joseph’s passion for teaching. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends around the world.”
Yesterday, Peace Corps issued an official news release regarding the safety of Peace Corps Volunteers in the Philippines during recent flooding. Currently, all PCVs serving in the Philippines are safe. Peace Corps Director, Aaron S. Williams, issued the following statement.
“On behalf of the Peace Corps and the more than 7,500 volunteers serving around the world, I send my condolences to the people of the Philippines. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the destruction caused by Tropical Storm Ketsana.”
There has been no official word from Peace Corps regarding volunteers in Samoa.

The wife of Guyana`s first President, the late Arthur Chung, has passed away after a brief illness. She was 77.
The Office of the President said Doreen Pamela Chung, died Saturday but funeral arrangements were still up in the air as of last night. Mrs. Chung leaves to mourn her two children – Diane Pamela and Raymond Arthur (Jr.)
Her husband, President Chung, served from 1970 to 1980. President Chung died on June 23, 2008, at the age of 90.
